The Surgical Tech is responsible for assisting surgeons and nurses in the operating room, ensuring a safe and sterile environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the operating room, sterilizing instruments, and assisting the surgical team during procedures. The Surgical Tech must possess a strong understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and patient safety protocols.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments and equipment.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Sterilize and organize surgical instruments.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout the procedure.
- Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes to the surgical team.
- Clean and restock the operating room after procedures.
- Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs.
- Manage emergency situations, including fire safety.
- Handle and label specimens.
- Adhere to universal protocol (time out) procedures.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Tech.
- BLS certification.
- Experience in General OR, Teaching Hospital, and Trauma settings.
- Aseptic Technique, Isolation Precautions, Radiation Safety, Sharps Safety skills.
- Experience with Drills (multiple types), Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords.
- Experience with Direct Laryngoscopy, Radial neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy.
- Experience with Colonoscopy, EGD, Peg tube placement/exchange.
- Experience with Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection - Open/LAP, Hernia repair inguinal/umbilical, Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy partial/total.
- Experience with Abdominal hysterectomy, Anterior/Posterior repair, Bilateral tubal ligation, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Vaginal Hysterectomy.
- Experience with Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion.
- Experience with Repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic.
- Experience with Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed/Open reduction of fractures, Laminectomy/discectomy.
- Experience with Free Flap - Microvascular.
- Experience with Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, MVA (multiple injuries).
- Experience with Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic assisted cases, Nephrectomy, Ureteroscopy.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CST certification.
- Teaching Hospital Experience.
- Trauma Level I Experience.
Special Considerations:
- On-call required as needed for the department.
- Must be in IL 3 business days prior to compliance HDD in order to meet fingerprinting requirements.
- Weekend requirement: Once a month with a total of 16 hours of obligation.
- Discuss RTO with manager - all time off must be reviewed and approved by manager.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without paying for the cancelled hours.
