Staff Accountant
Job Title:  Staff Accountant
Job Location:  Norfolk VA
Reports to:  CPA
FLSA Status:  Exempt
This is a FULL-TIME position

About the Role:
The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in maintaining the financial health of our organization within the wholesale trade industry. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards, which directly impacts our strategic decision-making. The Staff Accountant will manage various accounting functions, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, and account reconciliations, to provide a clear picture of our financial status. By analyzing financial data and preparing reports, the Staff Accountant will support management in identifying trends and making informed business decisions. Ultimately, this role is essential for fostering transparency and accountability in our financial operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or
  • Proven experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably within the industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, equivalent certification or experience in industry.
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with accounting principles.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately in the general ledger.
  • Manage journal entries and ensure proper documentation for all financial transactions.
  • Conduct account reconciliations and analyze discrepancies to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Assist in job costing and provide analytical support for budgeting and forecasting activities
Skills:
The required skills such as bank reconciliation and journal entries are utilized daily to ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled. Proficiency in accounting principles allows the Staff Accountant to maintain compliance and produce reliable financial reports. Analytical skills are essential for conducting account reconciliations and identifying discrepancies, which helps in maintaining the integrity of financial data. Familiarity with job costing enables the accountant to provide valuable insights into project profitability and resource allocation. Preferred skills, such as experience with accounting software, enhance efficiency in managing financial records and streamline reporting processes.
