Job Description

The Heavy Construction division specializes in large-scale electrical infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients, including transit systems, highways, bridges, tunnels, and utilities. Work includes ITS systems, lighting, fiber optics, power distribution, and complex system integration.

The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager and field leadership in planning, coordination, financial tracking, and execution of multi-million-dollar heavy construction electrical projects. This position offers exposure to high-profile infrastructure work and a clear path for growth within project management.

Position Summary

The Assistant Project Manager will assist in managing all aspects of heavy electrical construction projects — from estimating support and procurement through field coordination, scheduling, cost control, and closeout. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, field, and client teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, submittal logs, and RFIs.

  • Track materials, deliveries, equipment needs, and subcontractor progress.

  • Coordinate with design teams, suppliers, field supervision, and utility agencies.

  • Attend project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and action items.

  • Help process and maintain change orders, contract documents, and project correspondence.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Assist with project budgets, cost tracking, and forecasting.

  • Review invoices, subcontractor billings, and purchase orders for accuracy.

  • Help monitor job cost reports, quantities, and productivity metrics.

  • Participate in monthly project reviews and status updates.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Support implementation of QA/QC programs and field inspections.

  • Assist with ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes, and client requirements.

  • Help maintain safety documentation and coordinate with site supervisors to ensure safety standards are followed.

Documentation & Closeout

  • Maintain and organize project files, drawings, and documentation.

  • Track as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, and punch lists.

  • Support final project turnover and client acceptance.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.

  • 2–5 years of experience in construction project coordination or project engineering (electrical or heavy civil preferred).

  • Familiarity with electrical construction drawings, submittals, and specifications.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam, and scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera P6).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with field and office personnel.

Preferred:

  • Experience in infrastructure, transit, utility, or DOT-related projects.

  • Understanding of cost tracking, billing, and job costing systems.

  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.

  • EIT certification or interest in pursuing PMP certification.

Working Conditions

  • Field and office hybrid role with regular site visits.

  • Exposure to active construction environments and varying weather.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work to support project schedules.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.

  • Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.).

  • Career advancement opportunities on major infrastructure projects.

  • Supportive, collaborative environment with a focus on excellence.
